Anna Maria Island is one of those places that photographs itself. Old Florida charm, Gulf light that turns golden by mid-afternoon, colorful murals, weathered piers, and a pace slow enough to actually stop and frame the shot. Whether you are here for a weekend or longer, these are the spots worth pointing your camera at, organized by area so you can move through them without crisscrossing the island.
Anna Maria City
North Shore Café Mural

Bright, bold, and bursting with beach-town energy, the mural at North Shore Café was created by local artist and is one of the most recognizable photo spots on the island. It channels vintage postcard vibes with a tropical twist…think sun, color, and old Florida charm in a single frame. Grab a cold brew and enjoy the canal-view backyard for more scenic shots while you are there.
Anna Maria City Pier

The Anna Maria City Pier is one of the most classic shots on the island, stretching out over the Gulf with pelicans, fishermen, and open water in every direction. Early morning light here is exceptional. For a deeper look at the pier’s place in the island’s story see The History of Anna Maria Island.
Two Scoops Ice Cream

Two Scoops is as photogenic as it is delicious. The cheerful storefront and the inevitable cone-in-hand shot make this one of the easiest and most rewarding stops on Pine Avenue. The ice cream helps. For every scoop worth finding on the island see Best Ice Cream on Anna Maria Island: My Insider Guide.
The Donut Experiment

The Donut Experiment on Pine Avenue was made for close-up food photography. You pick your own toppings, which means every donut is one of a kind and every shot is completely yours. No two look alike and no two photos will either.
Anna Maria City Jail

One of the most unexpected photo spots on the island is the historic Anna Maria City Jail, a photogenic relic from another era. It is quirky, it is Florida, and it makes for a shot that no one back home will believe is real. The novelty alone is worth the stop and if you are traveling with kids, see the Best Family Activities on Anna Maria Island: My Insider Guide for more only-on-AMI moments.
Holmes Beach
Welcome to Anna Maria Sign

The classic arrival shot. The Welcome to Anna Maria sign is the first thing worth photographing when you reach the island via the Manatee Bridge. Simple, colorful, and instantly recognizable to anyone who has been here before.
Anna Maria Coffee Shack

The interior mural at Anna Maria Coffee Shack is the kind of detail you almost miss if you are not paying attention. Colorful, whimsical, and completely unique to this spot, it makes for a great candid or portrait shot while you wait for your order. The coffee is worth staying for anyway. For every great cup on the island see the Best Coffee Spots on Anna Maria Island: My Insider Guide .
The Ugly Grouper

The Ugly Grouper has energy and and it shows in photos. The colorful signage, the lively atmosphere, and the unpretentious vibe make it one of the more dynamic restaurant shots on the island. Come for lunch and get the shot with the 3,180 pound metal grouper while the afternoon crowd is still buzzing. For live music spots across the island see my Live Music on Anna Maria Island: My Insider Guide.
The Parrots at Sun and Surf Beach Shop

You might hear them before you see them. Outside the Sun and Surf Beach Shop in the Island Shopping Center, a flock of colorful parrots have been an unofficial island landmark for decades. Each bird has its own name and personality, and a few will say hello whether you are ready for it or not. They do come with a warning, “I will bite”, so admire from a respectful distance and enjoy the show. For the full story see my The Colorful Parrots Outside Sun & Surf on Anna Maria Island.
Bradenton Beach
Heart Rock

Bradenton Beach has a hidden gem that stops people in their tracks, a rock with a naturally occurring heart shape embedded in it. Locals keep the exact location close to their chest, and that is part of the charm. Wander, explore, and consider it a reward for those who take the time to look.
Bridge Street Pier Clock Tower

The clock tower at the Bridge Street Pier is one of the most photographed landmarks in Bradenton Beach. Framed against the water or the sky, it gives the island a sense of place and history that reads beautifully in a photo. For everything Bridge Street has to offer see my Bridge Street on Anna Maria Island: My Insider Guide.
Blue Marlin Restaurant

The Blue Marlin on Bridge Street has the kind of classic Florida beach aesthetic that photographs perfectly with weathered wood, bright colors, and a relaxed energy that comes through even in a still image. The exterior shot works especially well in late afternoon light.
Green Turtle Shell and Gift Shop

On the side of the Green Turtle Shell and Gift Shop is a mural of a sunning turtle that makes for a trendy and memorable shot. It is the kind of detail that surprises you when you find it. The shop itself is worth a browse too. For more great shops on the island see the Best Souvenir Shops on Anna Maria Island: My Insider Guide.
Cortez
The Fox Mercantile

The Fox Mercantile is a visual gem on its own, but the real photo opportunity is parked right outside: La Sal, a vintage yellow and white trailer that stops people in their tracks. It is the kind of detail that looks effortless in a photo but feels genuinely special in person. For more on exploring Cortez, my The Historic Cortez Fishing Village: My Insider Guide has everything you need.
Anywhere on the Island
Anna Maria Island Beaches

The beaches themselves are among the best photography subjects on the island. The Gulf light in the late afternoon turns everything golden. Any beach access point works, but the Holmes Beach accesses tend to offer more open stretches with fewer structures in the background.
Sunset

Sunset on Anna Maria Island is an event. The Gulf-facing beaches turn gold, pink, and orange in a display that draws crowds every evening and for good reason. Any west-facing beach access point works. Arrive 20 minutes before sunset to find your spot and have your camera ready. For the ultimate sunset experience see my Best Sunset Cruises on Anna Maria Island: My Insider Guide.
Beach Access Points

The paths and boardwalks that lead to the Gulf are a charming and often overlooked photo subject. Each one is slightly different with wooden slats, sea grass, and a glimpse of blue water at the end of the path. They are quiet, easy to frame, and give you that arriving-at-the-beach feeling in a single shot. For more no-cost island experiences see my Free Things to Do on Anna Maria Island: My Insider Guide.
Lifeguard Stations

The lifeguard towers on the city beaches are a quintessential Anna Maria Island shot. Bright flags, white sand, and that Gulf blue backdrop that photograph beautifully from almost any angle. For locations see my Lifeguard Stations on Anna Maria Island: My Insider Guide.
Coastal Close
Anna Maria Island rewards the unhurried photographer. The best shots here are not always the obvious ones. Keep your camera out, slow down, and let the island come to you.
