Black Pepper is a restaurant in the old town of Hvar, tucked along a picturesque alley in the center of the island’s historic core. Owned and run by two local friends, Black Pepper serves Mediterranean cuisine with a contemporary touch, drawing on fresh seafood, quality meats, and organic vegetables sourced from local fishermen and farmers.
The Vibe
Black Pepper is housed in a centuries old stone building with terrace views of Hvar and the surrounding islands. The interior blends European sophistication with an intimate ambience, a stone staircase lit by soft sconce lighting, red and white checkered tablecloths, and forest green window shutters set the tone before the first course arrives.
The Menu
Every dish at Black Pepper is built around high quality, homegrown ingredients. True to its name, the kitchen incorporates peppers sourced from all four corners of the world, layering flavor into a menu divided into cold and hot starters, mains, and desserts. Gluten free, lactose free, vegetarian, and vegan options are clearly marked throughout.
Standout dishes include perfectly grilled octopus, cheese ravioli, ravioli with black truffle, and tuna steaks. The wine list is equally considered, with sommeliers selecting top Croatian labels alongside international options.

The Service
Service at Black Pepper is professional and attentive without feeling stiff. Staff are happy to walk guests through the menu, explain ingredients and preparation, or suggest a wine pairing.
The Prices
Prices run between $16.00 and $55.00 per dish, in line with what to expect for Croatia and a restaurant of this caliber.
When to Go
Reservations are strongly recommended and can be booked directly through the restaurant’s website. Hvar was one of the stops on my own Adriatic cruise, if you’re curious how it fit into a wider itinerary, Exploring the Stunning Croatian Coast on a Luxury Cruise covers the full route.
