Legend has it that Ernest Hemingway’s favorite dessert was Key lime pie. It’s also one of my favorites. This slice of sunshine has a bit of a cloudy history!
The romantic story is set in the Florida Keys in the late 1800s. They often trace back to Key West, where key limes were abundant and fresh dairy was hard to find.
A Key lime is smaller, rounder, and more tart than a traditional Persian lime.
The story goes like this…down in the Florida Keys, Aunt Sally had the crazy idea to mix Key lime juice, sweetened condensed milk, and egg yolks. The yield was a creamy, yellow, and tangy filling.
Key lime pie was officially declared Florida’s state pie in 2006.
While the Florida Keys are most commonly associated with Key lime pie, the entire state of Florida crushes on the dessert.

At Daiquiri Deck, they garnish it with whipped cream and a twisted slice of lime.
Our Key Lime Pie Cocktail was developed in-house and tastes just like a Key lime pie. They use local Siesta Key Toasted Coconut Rum, Stoli Vanilla Vodka, Hard Truth Coconut Rum Cream, fresh lime juice and coconut cream. It is garnished with whipped cream and a slice of lime.
