Mahjong on Anna Maria Island: My Insider Guide

Updated: June 2026

Mahjong has found a natural home around Anna Maria Island. It fits the pace perfectly: no rush, good company, and something to focus on besides your phone. Whether you already play or you’ve been curious for a while, here’s where to find a table.

What Is American Mahjong?

American mahjong is played with tiles rather than cards, following the official National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) card, which is updated each spring. Games are typically four players, and the social element is half the fun. If you’re completely new, don’t worry. The Paradise Center beginner classes are a friendly, low-pressure way in.

If you’d like to practice at home or bring your own set, a travel-size American mahjong set is a great option, compact enough to pack in a suitcase and perfect for a rental porch or poolside game.

Mahjong is one of those activities that keeps pulling people back. Once you find your table, you’ll understand why.
