Just inside the garage door at Casa Rosa is an almost 6’ by 6’ powder bathroom which doubles as a pool bath. This powder room sat untouched from its original creation in 1988. It sported the uber popular white pedestal sink, linoleum floors, and little flower wallpaper.
The new era powder bathroom is brimming with designs which emphasize bold statements over conservative choices. Excitingly, a powder room is no longer just a space where guests go to “freshen up.” This small room offers the opportunity to take risks and showcase dramatic designs. This powder bathroom allowed the opportunity to showcase a wow-factor!
The vision for this powder bathroom renovation included the words…moody, bougie, contemporary, black and white, and brass. This petite bathroom provided the canvas.
The showstopper and splurge in this space is the Copeland 30” wall mounted single bathroom vanity with marble top by Greyleigh. This 30″ tall wall-mounted single bathroom vanity exudes a timeless vibe. It is supported with a brass metal frame and a bar across the front of the design increases its stability while offering a place to drape a decorative hand towel. The white marble countertop adds a sleek touch. This vanity comes with a ceramic oval-shaped under-mount sink and a faucet. A quick note…assembly proved difficult as there were no instructions to be found.
Even though the square footage is only about 36 square feet, the initial tiles selected were above budget. Floor and Décor to the rescue! The Maravilla Basalt and Dolonite 8” by 8” honed tile was the budget friendly choice at $8.99 per piece. This quiet luxury tile ticked all of the boxes. The tile provides six pattern choices and suggests a grout line of 1/16 to 3/8. Pattern 1 and the purple spacers at 3/32” were the winners!
The commode was an easy choice. The American Standard Cadet Ovation is my go-to toilet. With its clean lines and gently flared tank, the Cadet Ovation’s sleek design lends itself to most styles. In terms of comfort, this toilet provides an elongated chair height allowing easy sitting and standing. It uses 20% less water than a conventional toilet while not forfeiting powerful performance. Lastly, the PowerWash rim and EverClean surface ensure a longer lasting clean.
Another easy selection was the paint color. Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black is my go-to black paint color. It is a true black that works with all undertones. Tricorn Black is the blackest of blacks! It is moody, dramatic, mysterious, and timeless. The ceiling and trim are Sherwin Williams Dover White.
The idea was for the light fixture to mimic the floors. The Mitzi Renee 2 Light 22” Tall Wall Sconce with Frosted Glass Shades was discovered while browsing the usual lighting websites. This light is a chic sculptural fixture that is ideal for a contemporary space. It emanates a warm diffused light through a minimalist shape. The Renee proved to be the perfect complement to the black and white marble flooring.
With the significant items selected it was time to focus on the small details. The Nellie Toilet Paper Holder adds an eclectic element and quickly became a conversation piece. The Phineoly Acrylic Guest Towel Napkin Holder allows for disposable napkins to dry your hands. The mirror is from Home Goods. Never underestimate luxury soap. NEST Fragrances Moroccan Amber Liquid Soap and Hand Lotion Set pampers your guests. The greyhound perched on a small white plinth adds intrigue without being heavy handed. An antique brass hinged box under the vanity provides hidden storage for extra toilet paper. Lastly, the door hardware selected for the entire house is the Baldwin Square Door Lever Set from the Reserve Collection, constructed of solid brass for durability and dependability.
The walls, littered with female art, provide the guest a welcomed distraction. The pieces of art were collected from travels: Cuba, Portugal, Croatia, and Honduras. As travels continue, the walls will be filled with priceless memories. A valuable tip when it comes to framing art… frequent thrift stores for outdated art in classic frames. Swap out the art and voila!
Until next time…
