Everything you actually need for a perfect beach day: no fluff, just the good stuff.
A great beach day doesn’t happen by accident. It starts with a bag packed with the right things: sun protection that actually holds up, a towel that won’t come home full of sand, and the little extras that turn a good day at the shore into a great one. After decades of beach days, boat rides, and Gulf Coast evenings, here’s exactly what makes the cut in my bag.

Beach Bag
The foundation of a great beach bag is, well, a great beach bag. The Bogg Bag has been my personal pick for four years running, and for good reason. It’s spacious enough for a full family’s worth of gear, fully washable, and built specifically for beach life. Wet, sandy, and stuffed to the brim? It handles it without complaint.
It comes in a wide range of colors, from soft coastal neutrals to bold brights, so there’s an option for every vibe.

Sunscreen
Sun protection is non-negotiable on the beach. Here are the products I actually reach for:

Sun Bum Original SPF 30 is my everyday go-to. It’s lightweight, applies easily, and feels good on the skin, with no sticky, heavy residue. Enriched with Vitamin E, it helps keep skin moisturized through long hours in the sun.
COOLA Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 is my preferred mineral option. It’s a zinc-based formula that blends smoothly and doesn’t leave that thick, greasy feel that puts people off mineral sunscreen. I keep this one in the bag for long boat days and beach afternoons when I want a cleaner ingredient list.

Sun Bum SPF 45 Moisturizing Vegan Face Mist is my pick for intense sun days. Just a quick spritz delivers lightweight protection without disrupting your makeup or feeling heavy on your skin. Dermatologist-tested and enriched with Witch Hazel, it’s easy to reapply throughout the day, which is exactly what you need when you’re outside for hours.
Sun Bum Coconut SPF 30 Lip Balm is a small essential that makes a real difference. Lips burn easily and are easy to forget. This one keeps them soft and protected without any fuss.

Beach Towel

Lugging bulky cotton towels home full of sand is not the move. The Venture Microfiber Beach Towel absorbs over seven times its weight, dries quickly, and doesn’t hold onto sand the way cotton does. It’s large enough to spread out on but folds down compact into its own travel bag. There are plenty of pattern options, so you can find one that fits your style.
Swim Shirt
I always keep a long-sleeved swim shirt in my beach bag. My favorite is the BALEAF Long-Sleeve UPF 50+ UV Protection Shirt. It’s lightweight, breathable, and offers real sun protection without constant reapplication. The tag-free collar means it stays comfortable after hours in the water or out in the sun.

Tumbler

The YETI Rambler 20 oz Tumbler keeps drinks cold all the way to the last sip, even on the hottest days. The shatter-resistant lid makes it easy to drink on the go without worry. It’s been a permanent fixture in my beach bag, and I wouldn’t swap it for anything else.
Small Pouch
The ALOHA Collection Small Zippered Pouch is one of those additions that quietly solves a real problem. Sunscreen, lip balm, hair ties, and cash all end up at the bottom of a bag otherwise. This pouch keeps everything organized, wipes clean easily, and comes in a wide range of prints and colors.

First Aid Kit
A water-resistant travel-size 76-piece first aid kit is not glamorous, but it belongs in every beach bag. Small cuts, scrapes, and splinters happen. Having the basics on hand means a minor mishap doesn’t have to derail your day.

No-See-Um Repellent and Bite Treatment
If you’re spending time on the Gulf Coast, particularly around dusk or dawn, no-see-um protection is essential. These tiny biting insects are barely visible but pack a punch. Don’t head out without repellent and a bite relief option.

Coastal Close
A great beach day comes down to the details, and the right bag makes all the difference. Whether you’re chasing waves, lounging in the sand, or watching the sun dip below the water from the shore, having everything you need packed and ready means you can focus on what actually matters. Soak it all in.
Until next time…
