Romantic Restaurants on Anna Maria Island: My Insider Guide

Updated: July 2026

Anna Maria Island has no shortage of beautiful backdrops for a night out, and some restaurants take it a step further, pairing that scenery with candlelight, quiet corners, and menus built for lingering over a bottle of wine. Whether you are celebrating an anniversary, planning a proposal, or simply want a slower, more intentional dinner, these spots are ideal. For my full lineup of restaurant guides across the island, see my Dining on Anna Maria Island: My Insider Guide pillar post.

The seafood forward menu changes with what is fresh, so ask your server what came in that day. On Friday and Saturday nights, live music fills the charming outdoor Trapyard courtyard, making it an easy spot to linger over drinks before or after dinner. Sandbar has been an AMI institution for generations, known for toes-in-the-sand dining right at the water’s edge, one of the settings featured in my Best Toes-in-the-Sand Dining on Anna Maria Island: My Insider Guide. While it leans family-friendly during the day, evening dinners here take on a quieter, more romantic tone, especially just before sunset when the deck fills with couples watching the sky change color. The menu covers a wide range of seafood and coastal classics, with a full bar for sunset cocktails.

The menu ranges from tuna tartare to a Florida black grouper sandwich, with a cocktail list worth lingering over.

The Waterfront Restaurant

The Waterfront pairs a relaxed, laid-back porch with one of the more romantic settings on the north end of the island. Sitting porch side with a Gulf breeze and a view toward the Skyway Bridge in the distance sets the scene for an anniversary dinner or a quiet proposal. The seasonal menu draws on American, Asian, and Mediterranean influences, and the wine list is one of the most thoughtfully curated on AMI. The calamari is a menu staple here and always worth ordering, and you can see how it stacks up in my Best Calamari on Anna Maria Island: My Insider Guide.

Coastal Close

There is no wrong choice on this list, only the right restaurant for the night you are trying to have. Save this one for your next anniversary, proposal, or just because you deserve a good dinner.
